The Studio is the Temple
Lotte Hauss is an artist and a mystic. Her old masterly paintings, felted sculptures, and mysterious installations are offerings, amplifying the holy. Her art is a portal to connect to the eternal cosmic forces, and an invitation to step out of the personal into the realm of eternity.
“My art is a silent dialogue between life, death and beauty, my mortal heart and the eternal cosmic forces.”
Like in ancient times when our ancestors painted beautifully onto torch-lit cave walls, she makes no difference between performing art or magic. Bringing into existence what is hidden, missing, or not yet there.
Making art is a ritual, she serves as a medium, a priestess, transmitting what comes through into Paintings and Objects, using Materials such as wool, gold, bones, and oil paint.
Her mission is to amplify the holy, as in whole, it always contains light and darkness, it contains opposing poles. Put together by nature or cast in an artwork, that transcends you through beauty above the duality of the self and the world.
“When you are born, you enter this world in a gush of blood and shit. There is screaming, then you suck milk from your mother's breast. To me, the experience of giving birth, witnessing the passage into this world on the edge of life and death, was vital to accept that there is something like holiness and to feel life without restraints.”
