IT RAINED FISH IN 1984
Room installation with drawings, felt sculptures, photographs, 2011, Hamburg Hfbk Diploma
Whatever one looks at, visually or mentally, there always remains a blind spot that cannot be explained or fully grasped.
Creating distance to the real person, someone who may be drinking coffee, appearing on television or sitting in prison at this moment, and yet striving for closeness, the exact depiction of a person allows his absence to stand out particularly clearly. On the night of May 27, 1984, fish rained down on a house in east London. A photograph of the house owner showing a fish appeared shortly afterwards in a daily newspaper. This photo is one of the starting points for drawings, felt sculptures and photographs. Three-dimensional portraits of people who, due to various events, came into the focus of public attention.
